Our Story

At Romdoul Restaurant in Hastings, everything we do starts with whānau and heart.

We are a proudly family-owned and operated restaurant, created by Tony and Channa, alongside their daughter Linah, with the wider family working behind the scenes helping to keep everything running smoothly.

For us, this isn’t just a business, it’s a way of sharing who we are. Our journey began with a simple idea: to bring the warmth and flavour of Cambodia to Aotearoa, New Zealand. The food we serve is the kind we grew up with - it’s fresh, homemade, and deeply traditional. Every dish is prepared with care, just like it would be at home, and designed to be shared around the table with the people who matter most.

The name “Romdoul” carries special meaning for us. The Romdoul flower is Cambodia’s national flower, known for its soft beauty and long-lasting fragrance. It represents grace, warmth, and the gentle strength of Khmer culture. These are values we bring into everything we do, from our cooking to the way we welcome our guests. Whether you’re stopping in after a long day, bringing the family together, or just looking for a good, honest meal, you’ll find a place here. Our doors are open to everyone - locals, families, tradies, and anyone wanting food that feels comforting and full of heart.

At Romdoul, you’re not just dining with us, you’re sharing in our story.
